Rock Salt is a cheap effective means of clearing steps and pathways in the worst freezing and icy conditions. Most public buildings such as schools carry quite large stocks in reserve as winters in recent years have become more severe. Road crews will also use it on motorways to make the roads as safe as possible.
It is extremely easy to use as it only needs to be scattered over the area that is in need of being de -iced. Once rock salt has been applied to the ice, it begins to lower the freezing point, which causes the ice to start melting and makes it easier to remove. An additional benefit is it can also prevent ice from reforming in temperatures below -5 degrees.
